Sleep apnea disorder is a cessation of breath. If you are suffering from sleep apnea, then your breath may become very shallow or sometimes you may also stop breathing while you are at sleep.
The symptoms and signs of sleep apnea disorder include:
- Witnessed breathing cessation while asleep
- Excessive sleep at day time
- Loud snoring
- Snoring or gasping while asleep
- Night or morning headaches. Many people who are suffering from sleep apnea disorder report headaches
- Heartburn or taste of sour in the mouth during nights
- Suffering from nocturia, which is a disorder of urine system. Due to this you may get up during the night
- Swelling of legs
- Chest pain and sweating while you are at sleep
- Having problems with concentration and memory, experiencing changes in personality, feeling tired and waking with an un-rested feeling after sleep
- Nighttime gasping or choking spells
- Restless turning and tossing during sleep
- Dry throat and mouth up on awakening
- Lethargy
- Depending on the type of sleep apnea, breathing problems can occur. Episodes of “stop breathing” that may occur 5 times an hour this is called mild apnea, if that is more than 50 times an hour that is known as severe apnea
- Hyperactive behavior in children
Sleep Apnea and Sleep walking:
- Semi-ambitious movements, such as walking, while you are in sleep
- Confusion with loss of memory and concentration on the event
- Sometimes eyes may be open without your responsiveness.
Sleep Apnea Disorder and Night Terrors:
- These are common among children, particularly in boys
- Sweating, screaming
- Rapid increase in heart beat
- Persistent terror or fear at night, which occurs in semi-conscious state with unable to wake up fully
- Difficult to console
Sleep Apnea Disorder and Insomnia:
It is defined as difficulty in falling or staying asleep. This would often result in an insufficient amount of feeling tired and sleepy. Persons with insomnia would often wake up several times and you may lie awake up to midnight and extended time periods at night.
Sleep Apnea and Parasomnias:
These include abnormal behaviors of sleep. Such as sleepwalking, night terrors, sleep sex, sleep eating, Rapid eye movement (REM) disorder that may involve the acting out of dreams while you are at sleep.
Sleep Apnea and Hypertension
Hypertension is a warning sign for sleep apnea disorder. Frequent breathing interruptions during sleep increases the stress on heart. Nearly 50% of non-hypertension person who is suffering from sleep apnea will develop hypertension in 4 to 5 years.
