Wife’s Marital Relationship Influences Couple’s Sleep

A new study has found out that marital satisfaction of wife shows its influence on how couples sleep together. Study also suggested a couple is more likely to sleep in sync, when wife is more satisfied in her marital life.

Wife’s Marital Relationship Influences Couple’s SleepThis study was published in Sleep, an online supplement, and it was also presented in the SLEEP 2014, the 28th annual meeting of the Associated Professional Sleep Societies LLC in Minneapolis, Minnesota

According to the study, overall synchrony in sleep wake schedules among couples was high. In couples sharing the same bed, there was 75% of synchrony, whether it is during sleeping time or during awakening time. And, this synchrony was greater when wife reported higher satisfaction in her marital life.

Heather Gunn, PhD, the lead of the study is postdoctoral scholar at the University of Pittsburgh. Gunn said that marital relation has its influence on how couples sleep together.

For this study, a group of 46 couples were selected. Their relationship was assessed and the required sleep data for 10 days period was acquired with the help of actigraphy.

Gunn said that married couples sleep is more in sync when compared to sleeping with random individuals. Gunn also said that our sleep patterns dependent not only on when we sleep, but also on with whom we sleep.
